Sparland, IL - William L. Parrish, 78, of Sparland passed away at 2 a.m. Friday, July 4, 2008, at Heartland Health Care in Henry.

He was born Jan. 14, 1930, in Mount Palatine, Ill., to Page and Nora (Banner) Parrish Sr. He married Carol Pyles on Feb. 23, 1952, in Sparland.

Surviving are his wife, Carol, of Sparland; two daughters, Debra (James) Prather and Susan Holler, both of Sparland; and one son, Darrell (Deb) Parrish, also of Sparland. Also surviving are one sister, Grace Mannon of Sparland; one brother, Page Parrish Jr. of Lacon; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Bill was a veteran of the Korean War and he was a longtime member of the American Legion, serving as commander for a four-year term.

He also was a member of UAW Local 974.

Bill worked as a machine repairman at Caterpillar Inc. for 35 years before retiring in May 1985 from the Mossville Plant. He also was a mechanic for two different auto dealerships in Lacon for several years.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A committal of the urn will be in the Sparland Cemetery.
