LaQUINTA, CA - Mrs. Drenda Alexander Hawkins 54, formerly of Cherryville, NC, died May 13, 1999, at her residence.

She was born September 6, 1944, a daughter of the late V.G. ''Dick'' Alexander and Myrtle L. Alexander. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Cherryville, a graduate of Cherryville High School, and a bookkeeper and office manager.

A celebration of life service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at First United Methodist Church, Cherryville, with Rev. Kelley Jones and Rev. Jack Cooke officiating. Visitation is at the church after the service. Burial is private.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. Arch Hawkins of the home; daughter, Amanda Clawson of Indio, CA; stepchildren, Jason, Chris and Kerri Hawkins, all of Sebring, OH; sister, Janie Alexander Crawford of Cherryville; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 601 North Pink Street, Cherryville, NC 28021 or to Hospice at Eisenhower Medical Center, 42-280 Beacon Hill, Suite D-11, Palm Desert, CA 92211.
