Occupation: Farmer, Land Speculator, Local Magistrate


Military Service: Class 5th Private in the 6th Company of the 2nd Battalion of the Northampton County Pennsylvania Militia. In 1780-1781 he assisted in the construction of Fort Nashboro, North Carolina (present day Nashville, Tennessee). On April 12, 1781 he helped defend the fort against the Cherokee Indians.

Inscription

Cemetery is very overgrown. One marker, about 4 feet tall, is visible from the road running alongside the cemetery. One smaller marker and two more limestone markers can be seen among the weeds. There are possibly 10 to 20 unmarked graves in the cemetery.

Gravesite Details

The Turney Cemetery is located in Dekalb-NEAR Cannon County Line on OLD Clear Fork RD. County was once known as Smith County. Coming from Liberty turn left at the Cannon County line @ BRIDGE follow road keeping left & following the creek.
