Andrew Alexander, son of James & Mary Gibson (Hamil) Alexander, was born in Petersburg, Columbiana Co,Ohio. He went to Bedford Twp.,Cuyahoga Co., Ohio with his father's family, in 1833, where they settled on what became known as the Alexander Farm, on Alexander Road.
Andrew married Hannah Hope. They had children: James WRIGHT Alexander, John CLARK Alexander and Rachel ALMIRA Alexander. These three were always known by their middle names: Wright, Clark and Almira. Andrew & Hannah also had a daughter Mary E.,who died young and an infant son who died at the age of one week.

Andrew had a large farm, mainly fruits, especially strawberries and raspberries, and vegetables which they sold in markets in Newburg, outside Cleveland.
In 1871, Andrew had the only grist mill in southeastern Independance Township. His son Clark helped him run the mill for years. For many years this mill on the Cuyahoga River & the Pittsburg-Erie Canal, was known as the Alexander Mill. Later it became known as Wilson's mill, after the new miller.

In the Chagrin Falls Exponent, Bedford section, there was a notice on Nov 30, 1882: "Andrew Alexander, an old settler of this region has had to undergo a terrible operation, the removal of one of his eyes, to save the other eye. It is a peculiar operation, they say. The surgery was done in Cleveland, where Mr. Alexander still remains for treatment." (Bedford Historical Society) His wife Hannah had died just 9 months before, on Feb 24, of pneumonia.
