~~Obituary of Calista Clark Warren~~
Calista clark Warren. known to her intimates as Kittie, was born in Pawlet, Vermont in 1851. Her father was Robert Clark, grandson of Col. Elisha Clark who moved from Suffield, Connecticut to Vermont in 1784. He was also grandson of Col. William Fitch who moved from Lebanon, Connecticut to Vermont before the Revolution. Her mother was Calista Brown who moved to Vermont from Attleboro, Massachusetts with a brother, Captain Milton Brown.

Calista Clark was the youngest of seven children, her mother and father having been married in 1825. At the age of 16, she moved to Rockford, Illinois with her mother and sister where she attended Rockford Seminary. Several years later they moved farther west to Magnolia, a little New England Village nestled in the Iowa hills. From there, they moved to Missouri Valley, Iowa where she was active in the teaching of music and in the church choir.

In 1888 she was married to Dr. Horace Warren in Missouri Valley. Since 1917, she has lived with her son. Because of an impairment of her hearing, it was difficult for her to make new friends but her friends of many years knew her to be a woman of sterling principles. She was kindly considerate and devoted. She faced adversity with a sublime faith. She marched through life with head erect unafraid to stand for what she believed to be right.
