Jamestown Woman Pioneer Is Dead
Jamestown March 14 - Another pioneer of Jamestown passed away Wednesday at 1:45 o'clock pm in the person of Mrs Gertrude Drescher, who died at the residence of her son-in-law, George A Shamrock, near Algerine, this county. Mrs Drescher was a native of England and was aged 85 years, and was preceded to the grand beyond by her husband, C C Drescher about two years ago. Mrs Drescher leaves to mourn her one sister, Mrs Mary a Lasswell of Oakland, and two daughters, Mrs George A Sharrock of Sonora, and Mrs C H Dean of Merced. The deceased had not been strong since the death of her husband, at which time she took up residence with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs George A Sharrock, where she has since lived and received the best care and attention. For the past two months she had been in a semi-comatose state, following a stroke of paralysis, and a trained nurse, Miss Grace Burke of Sonora, was in constant attendance. Mrs Gertrude Drescher who had lived for so many years in Jamestown, was well liked and universally respected, and her relatives had the sympathy of this entire community.
Although she had lived beyond the biblical allotted time, she was spry and engaging until a short time previous to the stroke which ended her days of uselessness. The funeral will be from the Sharrock home Saturday at 12 o'clock noon, thence to the IOOF cemetery at Sonora, internment will be made at 2 o'clock pm beside Mr Newcombe, a former husband.
