Jane Hassert was born on March 21, 1766 in New Jersey. Her parents were Jacob Hassert and Ann Voorhees. She had four siblings named Catlina, Arent (or Aaron), Lucas, and Cathlina. Jane married Captain David Abeel (son of James Abeel and Gertrude Neilson) on May 10, 1789 at the Presbyterian Church in New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey. They had five children named Mary Ann (Mrs. Douw Ditmars Williamson), Gertrude, David, Johanna, and James. Jane died on March 2, 1842 in New Brunswick.
