Mrs Thomas Eagen long a resident of this community died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Delos Hillier on Friday morning February 16, 1940. She has been in declining health for several months but was only on the preciding Wednesday that she consented to leave her own home to spend her remaining days with her daughter.
Mrs Eagen was a woman of high ideals and a devoted homemaker. She was ever ready to give a helping hand to those in distress or need. Her home and her Church were first in her life. Since infancy she had been a devout member of the Catholic Church and since the establishment of the St. Thomas Parish at Poynette was very active in the organization in that parish.
Susanna Hagan was born in Portage Wisconsin on December 1, 1857. Her early life was spent on the home farm near Portage. On May 15, 1876 she married Thomas Eagen. For several years they lived on a farm in Arlington and later moved to Poynette.Mr Eagen died September 16, 1915 to this union were born 4 children a son George who died in infany on May 31, 1882. Surviving are three daughters Mrs Harry Conlon and Mrs Lee Manley of Portage and Mrs Delos Hillier of Poynette and five grandchildren and 3 geat grandchildren.
Mrs Eagen was proceded in death by her nine brothers and four sisters. Funeral services was held Monday morning in St. Thomas Catholic Church Poynette. Father Harlan Kuehn read the requiem mass. Burial in St. Mary's Cem. Portage
