Captain Del Valle served with Perea's Battalion, New Mexico Militia Infantry.

He was listed in the roster as Augusto Del Balle. The unit was organized between November and December 1861, for the defense of New Mexico. Augustin enlisted as a Captain on 30 Jan 1862.

The unit mustered out of service on February 28, 1862, a week after the Battle of Valverde. The Battle of Glorieta began a month later.

Major John Milton Chivington of the 1st Colorado Volunteers led a detachment into Cañoncito also known as Glorieta Pass. The detachment engaged a Confederate supply train and captured the supplies.

Although the Confederates prevailed at the Battle of Glorieta, the loss of supplies hindered their advance and they were forced to retreat. Augustin's obituary states he was involved with the Cañoncito engagement.
