Doris Elise Hesters, of Panama City, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 31. 2008.

Mrs. Hesters was born June 18, 1919 in Jenkins County, Georgia, the daughter of George L. and Ruby M. Bragg. As a young woman, Doris worked as a metal worker at the Panama City shipyard building ships during World War II. It was there that she met and married her husband, Archie, in 1945. She was a tireless and dedicated homemaker who possessed a quick wit. Mrs. Hesters was a dedicated Christian who strived continually to pray for the needs of her family and friends.

She is predeceased by her brother, Wesley A. Bragg and sister, Alice Murphy. She is survived by her be-loved husband of 63 years, James Archie Hesters; three daughters; Carolyn Eckerle and her husband Joe from Crawfordville, Fla.; Mary "Dru" Hooper and her husband Ernest from Panama City, and, Susan Pitts and her husband Dennis from Acworth, Georgia; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; brother, Mett Bragg and his wife Ruth from Panama City, sister-in-law, Ann Bragg from Marianna, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., August 2, 2008, at Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2008 in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Serving as active pallbearers will be Dennis Pitts, Chris Pitts, Ryan Pitts, Joe Eckerle, Ernie Hooper III and Ernie Hooper Jr. Honorary pallbearers are all members of Tommy Lumley's COED 9 Sunday school class. Donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, 107 W 19th Street, Panama City, FL 32405 or the Hiland Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 2611 Hwy 231, Panama City, FL 32405 in memory of Doris Hesters.
