William Paton was born to James Paton and Margaret Bryson in Ayrshire Scotland. They Immigrated on July 9, 1942 they arrived at the Port of New York on the ship Janet from Glasgow, Scotland. His wife Jeannette Findley Paton and there first born son James Paton first settled in Milwaukee. Several of there children were born there they came to Columbia Co. WI around 1850.

DIED- At his residence in Arlington on Sunday afternoon August 25th 1889 William Patton aged 71. The deceased was born in Scotland, but has resided in this locality for many years. A large circle of friends of long standing will testify to his high moral character and strict integrity in all matters. Physically he was symbolic of perfect manhood standing six feet and four inches high and well proportioned. The loss occasioned by his death will be keenly felt by the relatives and friends. It was his request that his regular pastor Rev. J. D. Smith of Lodi conduct the funeral exercises, but owing to the sickness of the latter, Revs. Jencks and Green of Poynette officiated. The funeral was held Tuesday morning and the remains interred in Poynette Cemetery.
