Hazel Mercer Bryson, 88, of Georgetown, died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2008, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Ted A. Sherrill. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery. Sign a guestbook at www.mayerfuneralhome.com.
Mrs. Bryson was born in Andrews on Feb. 16, 1920, a daughter of the late William Danie Mercer and Ida Virginia Munn Mercer. She grew up in Andrews, graduated from Andrews High School, and attended business school in Florence. Mrs. Bryson worked at the Charleston Navy Yard for a time prior to moving to Rome, Ga. She was a civil service worker and retired from the Social Security Administration. Mrs. Bryson moved to Georgetown about ten years ago. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Rome and the widow of James Bryson.
Survivors include: a step-son, Bill Bryson of Athens, Ga.; a step-daughter, Betty Frazier of Rome, Ga.; two brothers, Guy W. "Billy" Mercer of Hemingway and W. Dan Mercer of Georgetown; a sister, Lila M. Quickel of Georgetown; and a number of nieces and nephews.
