On October 2, 1781, he was commissioned as captain to raise a company of rifleman for service on the frontier, until January 1, 1782. he took such pride in his uniform that he died with it on him., and was thus laid to rest, in accordance with his wish, in the burying ground of the Lutheran Church near Stouchsburg.
