Michael was born in 1823, near Julianstown, Co. Meath. He married Catherine Moore of Drogheda, Co. Louth. He was survived by his wife Catherine and children.
On the 15 April 1863, at the age of 40, he signed up for three years and began his service in Nashville as a Private, Co. H. 10 Reg’t Tennessee Infantry, Union Army.
He died 25 April, 1865 in No. 6 General Hospital, New Albany, Indiana. He was unwell for several months having attended hospitals in Louisville, Kentucky. He died of heart disease.
