She knew at an early age she wanted to write and composed her first poem at age 6. Her poetry was first published in a nationally recognized children's magazine while she was still an undergrad at UND. She began songwriting in the late 1980's and went on to record 6 music projects of original material. She toured extensively in the US and abroad, performing her unique brand of children's entertainment that included poetry and music. She wrote the words and music to accompany a children's video that won the Family Channel Seal of Approval, appearing live on national television to accept the award. She also won other national awards including NAPPA Honors and the Parents' Choice Gold award twice. In addition to her music she had an extensive career in pioneering child care for homeless families in Nashville Tennessee. For this work, she was awarded the Junior League of America National Program Award. She accepted the award at a banquet of Junior League officers from around the country and recited original poetry as well as sang original songs during her address. In 2003 she was diagnosed with breast cancer but successfully underwent treatment. She continued to write and tour until the disease returned in 2006.
