J.P. Dawson and his wife, Nancy Jernigan Dawson, both have CSA pension applications on line in the GA archives virtual vault. He says he was born in Jasper County, about 1832. She gives proof of their marriage on Aug 15, 1856 in Clay County and supplies his date of death as June 1902. He enlisted in Randolph County in 1861 and served six months with the state troops before reenlisting in Company H of the 51st GA regiment. He was captured just before the close of the war and taken to Camp Chase, Ohio prison.
