Rev Porter J. McKinstry was the son of Paul and Elizabeth "Betsey" (Pratt) McKinstry. McKinstry. He was the husband of Chloe Ann (Hadley) McKinstry. They were married September 9, 1839. Chloe died October 26, 1887. Rev. McKinstry was a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church: Genesee (Western New York/now Upper New York) Conference 1838 F 1840 East Genesee Conference at organization 1848 Central New York Conference by change of boundaries 1872 Genesee Conference by transfer 1874 East Genesee Conference at organization and to Genesee Conference by consolidation 1876 Central New York by change of boundaries 1880 He served in the ministry for 51 years.

MCKINSTRY.--Rev. Porter McKinstry who was for so long a pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Hopewell and Emory Chapel died suddenly Saturday morning at his son's residence in Penfield. He was brought here and buried by the side of his faithful wife. She died while they lived here. Her grave was covered with flowers as well as his by faithful friends. It will be a long time ere they are forgotten. He was at one time Presiding Elder and always an excellent preacher and model man.
