For six seasons, he was a utility player with the Detroit Tigers (1914) and Chicago White Sox (1916-1920). He is best known for his involvement in the 1919 World Series Black Sox Scandal. McMullin became a part of the conspiracy when he overheard several other players' conversations and threatened to report them unless included. As advance scout his teams pitchers for the World Series, he wanted an equal share in the $5,000 winnings from the fix. For his role in the fix, he was banned for life from organized baseball, along with seven other players, by Baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Landis. He ended his career with a record of 234 hits, 120 runs scored, 1 home run, 70 runs batted in and a .256 batting average. He died at age 61 in Los Angeles, California.
