George Patterson, 84, well known Smoot resident died at his home early Saturday morning, April 1, 1995, following a lingering illness.
At his request immediate cremation was arranged through Packham's Grove City Crematory in Blackfoot ID. Local arrangements and courtesies to the family were provided by Schwab Mortuary. Private disposition of the cremated remains will be arranged by the family at a later date. No further services are scheduled.
He was born May 30, 1910 in Fort Wayne IN, the son of fred Clinton and Nettie Beamer Patterson.
A career military man, he entered the United States Navy in July of 1928 and retired in 1955.
He was married to Hideko Kondo on Jan. 20, 1969 in Nogoya, Japan.
He will be remembered for his skill as an auto mechanic and small engine repairman. But even more many will remember his willingness to teach children about engines and life and his many selfless acts of kindness and freely given assistance.
He is survived by his wife Hideko "Heidi" Patterson; three sons, George W. Patterson of Fairfield, CA, Robert Patterson of Smoot, Mike Patterson of Afton; a daughter Sandra Patterson of Fontana, CA; a sister Ruth Stuart, Florida; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
George Patterson, 84, who has been confined at his home with congestive heart failure, died at 2:10 a.m. Saturday. he had suffered a stroke and on friday had gone into a coma. Members of his family had visited during the past few weeks. His son, George Jr., and his wife of Fairfield, CA came Saturday and they joined Hideko, Mike Patterson and wife Judy, of Osmond and their sister, Sandra Patterson of Fontana, CA and DJ and Mortuary in Afton where they greeted friends and neighbors before George's body was taken to the crematorium in Blackfoot. George and Hideko had made many friends in this area since moving here. They ran the service station and were very accommodating to the public. After George's retirement they pretty much remained at home. Bob Patterson another son, who was recently here to visit his father was unable to be here Saturday but arrived this week to join his family.
