A son of the late John Knox Ewart Sr. and Myrtle Wingard Ewart. He was a WW II veteran having served in the United States Army and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He attended Erskine College and is a former President of the Board of Council for Erskine College. He also, received the Sydney Algernon Award from Erskine College.
Mr. Ewart retired from DuPont after 31 years where he was a supervisor. He was a member of the James LeRoy Belk American Legion Post 17 and the Christian Community Ministries in Camden. He was a founding member of Morningside Presbyterian Church and received Lay Person of The Year in 2002. He enjoyed old cars and woodworking.

He was predeceased by brothers, James Knox Ewart Jr., and William Cameron Ewart; and sister, Lois Ewart Addison.
