I have many wonderful memories of my grandmother. I loved going to her house to visit. Even now I still feel the urge to stop whenever I pass her house.

Grandma did not talk about her family much. I knew very little about where she came from. When I had a family tree project to do for school she gave me names and dates, but did not go into detail about any of the people. I knew her father died in a trucking accident when she was a young girl. That was pretty much all she ever told me about her family.

Grandma had a large jar of buttons that she kept in the downstairs bedroom. I remember setting in that bedroom and sorting the buttons.

Born in Perry County, Ohio on June 13, 1926, to Mr. Charles Davis and Mrs. Rosella Hammond Davis, Mrs. Spinks was retired from Jan's Dinner Bell.

She married Lawrence Emil Spinks on February 14, 1944 and took care of him until his passing in 2003.

After seven years of marriage without being blessed with a child, they adopted Larry's newborn nephew, Danny. They raised him as their own and showed him the same love they showed their two children who came later.

She is survived by daughter, Teresa Hollingshead of Zanesville; son, John I. and Robin Spinks of Mount Perry; nine grandchildren, Kristi Spinks, Heather Summers, Meagon Mackell, Ashley Samson, Jason Hollingshead, Nicholas Spinks, Tara Hollingshead, Jeffrey Southard and Josh Paxton; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Carol Sager of Lancaster.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Spinks in 2003, a son, Danny Spinks in 2005, two granddaughters, Angela in 1974 and Dani in 1980, and nine brothers and sisters.

DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home in Zanesville took care of the arrangements.
