He is survived by his wife Mrs. Elnora (nee Smith) Nicholas and nine children, Mrs. Ada Roberts, Mrs. Stella Boster, and Mrs. Alice Boster of Rolfe, Iowa, Leslie A., Wilmer W. and Emery E. Nicholas of Felton, Minn., Mrs. Jas. Upwood, Irvin E., and Alfred D. Nicholas of Runeberg, Minn.
Deceased was born August 22 1843 in Ohio. He enlisted in the Union army in 1862 and served three years, was wounded at the siege of Vicksberg. He was married to Miss Elnora Smith February 7, 1867, and the union was blessed with the nine children above mentioned.
The deceased had only lived in our village a few months, having moved here from Iowa last March, but in this short time he has gained the love and respect of the entire community by his sterling manhood and frank, pleasant manner. He has been a member of the M. E. church for the past forty years. He was a charter member of the Arlington Methodist Episcopal church of Iowa in the year of 1888, and was an active, zealous worker for the organization since he has been here.
Such a man does not die. His body is cold and breathless but he lives in the hearts and memories of his comrades with whom he shared the dangers and hardships of war for a period of three years. He lives in the hearts of his brethern with whom he served as a soldier of the Cross, for the past forty years.
The funeral was from his home in Menahga, June 15, 1913. Rev. Henry Hulme officiating.
He was also predeceased by
infant daughter Mary
