His Stevenson grandparents were some of the 1st settlers in Richland Twp. in the early 1800s & built the 1st Methodist Church in Fairfield Co. on their property there.
Of English descent, one of 13 known siblings, the Peters family relocated from MD to OH. He married a cousin & had 4 children. He worked as a tanner for many years on Main Street.
They were members of the Methodist Church in the early 1840s before he & his wife died separately in 1844. As orphans, their 3 surviving children were raised in Wyandot Co., Ohio by his brother Henry & his wife who only had 1 dau. that died at age 20. They also raised 6 children of no relation and included them handsomely in a large estate by the Will. They adored Gideon's dau., Rebecca's 7 children & Gideon's son who was named for Henry.
Gideon died of a severe attack of side plurisy.
The descendants of his parents, Samuel & Mary (Stevenson) Peters formed The Peters Family Association who published The Peters-Stevenson Family Genealogical Record and History in May, 1930. The Stevensons are named in most of the History of Fairfield Co.. OH books.
