Ole Salmela's Funeral
At Ole Salmela's funeral, the pallbearers were Erik Maaninga, William Miller, Ed and Emil Koskela, Levi Haataja and Matt Baso. Pastor Alajoki said the memorial service and G. H. Haataja was the singer. Funeral was held at the Wolf Lake's Apostolic Church and the body was buried at the Koskela Cemetery, Spruce Grove Township. Kampsula and Bjerken, funeral directors, were in charge of the burial.
In the olden days, the Finnish Churches never had organs, so they had men, usually 2, who sat at the front of the church and lead the congregation in singing. Usually, the congregation was behind about 1/2 a word. These men were called "Loukarris" or spelled something like that.
