Officer Barmeier was on a streetcar on his way to report for duty when he heard a woman screaming on Salisbury Street. Officer Barmeier then stepped off the streetcar and began intervening in the domestic dispute between Chief Street and his wife Catherine Street. During the Officers investigation of this domestic quarrel, he was shot through the heart by a .32 caliber round. Mrs. Catherine Street was also shot and killed during this dispute. The suspect (Chief Street) was acquitted at trial because there were no witnesses to the shooting.
Officer Barmeier left to mourn his passing his wife Martha Barmeier of 2107 Madison Ave. and 3 children Charles F., George, and W. Charles Barmeier.
He was the son of John and Dora (Siemsen) Barmeier.
The wake was held at Meek-Dickman Chapel located at 3039 Easton Ave. The interment was at the Zion Cemetery located at 7401 St. Charles Rock Rd. on November 29Th, 1915.
