Ella was born in 1861 (contrary to her stone, but supported by the 1870 U.S. census record in Kansas), the fourth of eight children, and the second of four daughters, of George Crofton and Mary [?]. Ella was married to Louis Patnoe on November 28, 1882 in Leavenworth, Kansas. Louis and Ella had the following children: Mabel Rankin, Louis F. Patnoe, Charles H. Patnoe, Clarence J. Patnoe, Katie Patnoe, and Arthur C. Patnoe.
