MRS. BESTGEN PASSES AWAY
Mrs. Augusta Bestgen, 67, and a member of a well-known Tipton Family, passed away at the family home in Tipton at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, March 30, 1961 following a short illness.
Mrs. Bestgen was born near Tipton, July 7, 1892 a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Mike Lix.
She was married to Louis A. Bestgen at St. Peters Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kans., June 2, 1948.
Survivors include her husband; a sister, Miss Lena Lix, of Tipton; and a brother, Louis Lix, of Wright, Kans; seven stepchildren, Mrs. Sylvester Schuster, Mrs. George Knipp, Jr., Mrs. Louis Lutz, Mrs. Vincent Hecht, Eugene Bestegen, Cecil Bestgen and Bonnie Bestgen, all of Tipton.
Mrs. Bestgen was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church of Tipton and the Altar Society of the church. She was active in church and civic affairs and she did much to stiulate interest in Tipton's centennial in 1958.
The body was held at the Conn Funeral Home where the rosary was recited at 8p.m. Sunday and the funeral mass being from St. Andrew's Catholic Church at 9 a.m. Monday with the Rt. Rev. Msgr McKenna of St. Peters Cathedral, Kansas City, Kans., as celebrant. the deacon was the Rev. Father Paul Miller, Lenexa, Kans.; subdeacon, the Rev. Father Maurice Gardner, Gardner, Kans., and the master of ceremonies, the Rev. Father Harry Cavanaugh, assistant in St. Andrew's.
Present in the sanctuary were the Rt. Rev. Msgr. H. J. Breit, pastor of St. Andrew's, the Rev. Father Vincent Linnebur, St. Thomas Seminary, Hannibal and the Rev. Father Adelbert, Kansas City, Kans.
Mrs. Bestgen was a former housekeeper for Monsignor McKenna, a duty she faithfully performed for 27 years. Through her benevolence she was responsible for the theological training received by Father Gardner.
Interment was in the Catholic cemetery and serving as casket bearers were Cecil, Bonnie and Eugene Bestgen, Louis Lutz, George Knipp, Jr. and Sylvester Schuster.
Mrs. Bestgen was energetic and useful in her home and in her community. Many were her friends.
