Emery was married in July 1951 at Ventura, Ventura County, California as the 2nd husband of Helen Katherine (Bartell) Wenzel (1911–1992), the daughter of Stephen "Steve" Bartell (1863– ) and Mary M (Dubinsky) Bartell (1878–1970).
Employed by Southern Pacific Railroad about 1960, he was active with the Conservation Corps and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He and his wife moved to Victorville, San Bernardino County, California in December 1983.
Emery was 81 years old and had heart problems when he died on May 1, 1996 at a convalescent home in Fullerton, Orange County, California. {His obituary incorrectly listed him as dying of cancer.}
A rosary was said on May 4th at Kern Memorial Chapel in Victorville, and Graveside Services, provided by Holy Innocents Church, were held on May 6th in Desert View Memorial Park, Victorville.
