He was the son of William and Christina Unknown Young.

Jacob immigrated to the United States from Germany with his parents in 1852.

Jacob married Elizabeth 'Eliza' Geiss (1847-1916) on October 9, 1867 in Lancaster, Fairfield Co, Ohio. Their first child, William Michael (1868-1963) was born in Dresden, Ohio. The rest were born in Lancaster, Ohio.

The 1900 census lists Jacob's occupation as laborer in a brewery. Jacob at one time worked on the railroad. His death certificate lists his occupation as grocery business.
