Private, Company D, listed as Gordon Falkner, enlisted on 8/211861 at Princeton, Mercer County, (West) Virginia---1860 MCC, age 23, farmer, married to Anne E., age 21. Born on June 30, 1837. (Another source says July 1st) Appears on the 1850 Census of Montgomery County, Virginia, age 13, residing with parents, Hugh M. Faulkner, age 34, blacksmith, and Susan Helvey Faulkner, age 35. Married to Anne Elizabeth Taylor in February 1858 in Mercer County. Enlisted on 5/15/1862 in Mercer County in Company D, 17 th Virginia Cavalry. Discharged 2/4/1863 "on account of belonging to the Dunkard church and paying five hundred dollars". Listed on the 1870 Census of Beaver Pond Township, Mercer County, West Virginia, age 32, farmer, married to Ann, age 32. Enumerated on the 1880 Census of Mercer County, West Virginia, Beaver Pond District, age 42, farmer, married to Ann, age 42. Married to Rhoda J. Farley in August 1882 in Mercer County. Died on 3/21/1896 per family files. (cemetery records indicate 1886) Buried in Sandlick Cemetery, off Skating Rink Hollow Road in Mercer County, West Virginia. Tombstone inscription reads; "Asleep in Jesus, time nor space, Affect this precious hiding place. on India plains , or Lapland snows, Believers find the same repose." His name appears on the 1890 Veteran's Schedule of Beave Pond, Mercer County, West Virginia. Service stated as horse shoeing, regiment unknown, from February 1, 1864 for 11 months, in service at Kettetts Burg 3 months. At Charleston W. Va. 8 months. Faulkner's photograph appears in Mercer County History. Middle initial given by family sources as "P". Faulkner was the father of 21 children.
