Theodore Ripsom, 75, of Reno, NV passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2008 peacefully at home. Ted was active in the National Guard while attending Reno High School and then enlisted in the US Air Force. While stationed in Mobile, AL he married Loraly Joyce Hancock, also of Reno, in October of 1954. Ted and Joyce raised three children together in Sparks, NV. A devoted father, Ted raised his children to be hard workers and instilled in them the Christian faith as he led the choir in song, volunteered at the Youth Ministry for the First Church of God, and distributed bibles for the Reno Gideon Camp. After 32 years of marriage, Ted lost his wife Joyce to ovarian cancer in March of 1987. Ted also lost his daughter Joy Keller to the same disease in 2006. Ted found love again when he married Ruth in November 1987. Ted and Ruth shared 20 years of marriage together.

Ted had a 28 year career with Sierra Pacific Power Co. as a supervisor for gas turbines and diesel power plants, he retired in 1989. One of Ted's greatest joys in life was hunting mule deer in Northern Washoe with his family. Ted passed on his love of hunting to his sons and grandsons. Each year at our annual family hunt we know you will be with us "G Ted". Ted is survived by his wife, Ruth Taber Ripsom; his children, Wayne Ripsom of Las Vegas, Chris and Rebecca Ripsom of Lake Arrowhead, CA, David Keller, Cathy and Ron McIntosh of Reno, Liz and Dave Tennant of Sparks, and Nancy and Mark Harper of NJ. Ted adored his 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Ted was blessed by many long lasting and loving relationships that he included as his family.

A funeral service and reception will be held at Ross, Burke and Noble at 2155 Kietzke Lane in Reno on August 18 at 10 a.m. followed by a graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery. Those wishing to make donations are requested to direct their gifts to either: American Cancer Society in remembrance of his lost loved ones, Nevada Department of Wildlife, Sister Carmen's Charity at Our Lady of Snows or Gideon's International Reno Camp.
