*** CIVIL WAR Veteran ***
date of service: Aug. 25, 1862 to June 30, 1865.
Assigned to NY 3rd Regiment, Company K, Light Artillery.

Mustered in under Captain James R. Angell.
William A. Scott was promoted to rank of Corporal on May 23, 1863.
He was mobilized in combat at the following Battles:

1) Rawls Mill on Nov. 2, 1862 in N.C.
2) Kinston on Dec. 14, 1862 in N.C.
3) White Hall on Dec. 16, 1862 in N.C.
4) Goldsboro on Dec. 17, 1862 in N.C.
5) Chaffin's Farm on Sept. 29 - 30, 1864 in Va.
6) Petersburg on June 9, 1864 to March 25, 1865 in Va.

His brother's, Orrin Edgar Scott and John Albert Scott also fought in the same battles. All 3 brothers were mustered out of Richmond, Virginia on June 30, 1865. After the war they shortly resided in Wolcott, Wayne, NY. instead of Weedsport or Brutus, Cayuga co., NY.
Orrin died on August 2, 1865 shortly after the war ended in Butler, Wayne, NY.

- On Wednesday July 24, 1895 - New York State Pensions granted was re-issued to William A. Scott of Weedsport. Not known if this applied to his father only or if Augustus earned some form of pension. In either case, unknown by what means the pension was accrued. Investigating NY State records may give details.

On July 3, 1868, William married Irene Hoyt, daughter of Isaac G. Hoyt and Phoebe Forman.

1-Ora H. Dillingham -their children, Ruth and Harold.

3) Helen "Nellie" Forman Scott (b.1880) - married 3 times
1-Edward Clare Wise -their child, Eva
2-Harry Dennis
3-Roy O'Neal Young (WWI Army Veteran).
4) Mae "Mary" Lenore Scott (b.1882) - m. Floyd Clinton Pulsipher
their children, Wayne and Leon
5) Harrison "Harry" B. Scott (b.1888) Find A Grave #85513534 - married twice
1-Georgia Hazel Mills -their children, Thelma and Glenn

d) Amanda Scott - unknown, birth and name is unresolved relating to Sarah J. Scott.
e) Sarah J. Scott - last name appearance was 1875 New York State census age of 20.
unable to rule the possibility that in 1877 she had married Albert G. Mosher of Sterling, Cayuga, NY. The year of birth is within 2 years as been given Aug. 1857. Two of her children list her maiden name of Scott in their NY marriage records.
Martville - "Mrs. Albert Mosher was an over Sunday guest of her brother A. Scott. " Cato Citizen, Wed. March 20, 1912. - A. Scott is most likely to be Augustus Scott as of Nov. 1908 was living in Martville.
Weedsport -" Mrs. Albert Mosher of Martville was the guest of her brother Walter Scott over Sunday". Cato Citizen, Saturday, Jan. 5, 1907. - Walter Scott was still alive until 1924 and was living in Weedsport.
Martville -"Mrs. W. A. Scott, Mrs. Albert Mosher and Bernice Mosher attended a wedding in Weedsport last week." -THE AUBURN CITIZEN, MONDAY, JULY 3, 1911.

WILLIAM SCOTT
The death of William A. Scott occurred at his home in Martville early Tuesday evening, June 18th, after an illness of only a few days. He was an old resident of Martville, having gone there from Weedsport some years ago. He was a member of the G. A. R. , serving three years in the civil war as corporal in Co. K, 3rd regiment of N. Y. light artillery. He is survived by his widow; three daughters and two sons, Mrs. Harriett Scott Dillingham, of Buffalo; Mrs. Harry Dennis, of Syracuse; Mrs. Floyd Pulsipher, of Ira; Ervie Scott, of Weedsport; and Harry Scott, of Elbridge.
Interment in Weedsport Rural cemetery.

In Nov. 1908 - about mid November had moved from Weedsport to Martville. Bought Chauncey J. Abbott's place who unfortunately had died at his winter home on Dec. 8, 1908 in Cato.
