Born in East Tennessee Mary Jane Moyers, the daughter of Wyley M and Sarah Jane "Sallie" Jones Moyers came to the Limestone County, Alabama possibly following her parents and other siblings sometime after the 1870 Rhea County, Tennessee census where she is listed with her parents and siblings as single and 28. However, she had given birth to a son, William who was listed as 13 in 1880 making him born about 1867... there was no William listed living with her or her parents in 1870. She shows up in Limestone County, Alabama in the 1880 census as the head of household and a widow. Living with her is her two sons, William 13, making him born in 1867 in GA and her son John born in 1875 making him 5, and born in Alabama, her mother Sallie, a widow, and youngest brother Albion Bruce (AB) are living with the family.
Mary shows up in 1891 when she marries John Carr, a widower twice removed on April 6th in Giles County, Tennessee. Her son, John lived with them and helped John out on the farm until he died in 1895 at the age of 20.
She and John are found in the 1900 Giles County, Tennessee census where she is 67. Living with them is John's daughter Parthena E. and his granddaughter Veda. In this census Mary, who likes to be called Mollie says she is the mother of 2 children who are both deceased. We know John died in 1895 but have not found a death date or burial location for her son William.
John died in 1903 and in the 1910 Giles County, Tennessee census she is head of house, a widow and living with her is John's daughter, Parthena and her daughter Veda. In 1921 when she died Parthena was the informant for information given on her death certificate.
