She came to California in 1905 when her father moved the family west from Pennsylvania. After brief stays in San Francisco and Richmond, the family moved to Pleasant Hill. In 1908, her father sold the Pleasant Hill property and settled at Spring Hill, Sebastopol, Sonoma County, California.
Amelia attended Pleasant Hill and Spring Hill Grammar Schools. In 1913, she graduated from Analy Union High School, Sebastopol, California. It is said that she named the Analy Yearbook the "Azalea" because she loved the azaleas that grew near her home on Spring Hill. After graduating from Sweets Business School in Santa Rosa, California, she was employed as a secretary at the First National Bank of Sebastopol and later as a secretary to Mr. Wood, Manager of the Saint Francis Hotel, in San Francisco, California.
She married Charles Washington Kidwell (1892-1937) on May 5, 1921 in San Francisco, California.

After Charlie's death in 1937, Amelia returned to a business career and served as the City Clerk of Sebastopol, California.
In 1952, she was the President of the Soroptimist Club of Sebastopol. She was active in the Congregational Church of Sebastopol, and served as their Treasurer in the 1950's. Amelia was also active, and held the position of Worthy Matron, in the Gold Ridge Chapter of the Eastern Star.
In 1955, she opened her own dress shop in the old train depot on Main Street in Sebastopol.
Amelia died in an automobile accident while returning from a business trip in San Francisco to Sebastopol.
