John Hicks, an aged veteran of the Civil war and a lifelong resident of Dry Run, died at his home three miles southwest of Duncansville on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, death being attributed to heart disease. He had been in failing health for some time but was only taken seriously ill on Sunday morning.

He was born in the vicinity of Duncansville on July 11, 1838. On Dec. 13, 1866, he was united in marriage with Miss Leonora Koon, who died six months ago.

During the Civil War, Mr. Hicks served valiantly in Troop L. Third Maryland Cavalry.

Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at the home, in charge of Rev. F.W. Biddle of the Hicks Memorial Methodist Church.

Interment was made in the Carson Valley Cemetery.

Surviving are the following children: William A., Mrs. Jennie Ressler, Charles B., John W., C.O., and Mrs. Frank Grove, and twenty-three grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

HICKS, JOHN
John Hicks, the son of William and Mary (Piper) Hicks, was born July 11, 1839 and died in Duncansville, June 7, 1925. A civil War Veteran, he married Lenora Koon, December 13, 1866. She was born, December 13, 1845, the daughter of Abraham and Seville (Koon) Hicks. Lenora in died in Duncansville, December 12, 1924. They had nine children:
-----1. Martha Hicks, born in Blair County, September 6, 1867, died August 31, 1885.
-----2. William Abraham Hicks, born Blair County, October 8, 1869, died June 12, 1942, married March 13, 1907 to Thirza Elcote, who was born March 4, 1878 and died October 8, 1952. She was the daughter of Luke and Felicia (Jackson) Elcote. A son, John Nelson Hicks was killed in an auto accident at Sharpsburg on August 22, 1932.
-----3. Mary W. Hicks, born Blair County, August 17, 1871, died February 28, 1885. Not married.
-----4. Jennie Hicks, born Duncansville, September 29, 1873, died November 9, 1949, married Lafayette Ressler, January 28, 1904. A child, Mildred Ressler, married James Liebegott.
-----5. Jessie Hicks, born August 13, 1875, married H.M. Kessler ,February 7, 1891.
-----6. Charles Francis Hicks, born Blair County, June 27, 1878, died November 12, 1958, married Mary E. Grove, March 22, 1903. Five children: Paul Nelson Hicks; Thelma R. Hicks; Marcella Hicks; Sheldon W. Hicks, a twin, and Sherwood Hicks, twin.

-----8. Blair Oliver Hick, born Blair County, April 11, 1884, died April 21, 1950, married Sadie Ritchey, June 16, 1925. A step son, George Ritchey.
-----9. Lenora Hicks, born Duncansville, August 14, 1889, died of severe burns, July 10, 1961, married William Frank "Toots" Grove, February 16, 1910. Six children: Kirth Grove; Wilma Grove; Marian Grove; Lenora Grove; John L. Grove and Frank Grove.
