- Double wedding with sister, Violet Young, married in their home in Eskridge
- School Teacher. Worked in the town laundry, flour mill in Newton KS. Had a very hard life raising her three girls.
- Made dresses from the flour sacks, which was common among the poor, and for all her family during WWII.
- Wonderful with flowers -- had a flower garden about 30ft x 30ft at home on 424 W. 5th St. in back left corner of back yard. She'd wear a long sleeved shirt to protect her from the sun, and had a straw gardening hat which she wore religiously. Grew lots of vegetables - corn, tomatoes, green beans. She liked to make Sand Hill Plum Jelly. The plum trees would grow in the sand hills along the road - hence the name.
