. Sherman Peter Young.
. Sherman Peter Young, son of James and Mary Hamilton Young, was born in a log cabin, July 7, 1864, in Osage County Kansas, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Francelia Robinson, November 15, 1956. He was 92 years, 4 months and 8 days old. At the age of 10 years Sherman moved with his parents to a new stone house, constructed by them, in Shawnee County Kansas. He resided there for a few years and then moved to Eskridge in Wabaunsee County, where he received his education. He taught for a few years before going to College. He was a graduate of Normal College, Emporia.
. Mr. Young was a member of the Presbyterian church of Wakarusa before transferring to the United Presbyterian church in Eskridge.
. On September 22, 1892, Mr. Young was united in marriage to Carrie Brown Keezel at Emporia, Kansas. To this union six children were born. his wife preceded him in death in 1941.
. After Mr. Young was married he farmed in Shawnee County a number of years before coming back to Eskridge so that his children could further their education. For the past six years he has lived with his daughter [Francelia] in Eskridge.
. Mr. Young is survived by one son, S. Kenneth Young of Galena, Kansas and five daughters, Mrs. Columbia Beasterfeld, Mrs. Francelia Robinson and Mrs. Lucille Iott all of Eskridge; Mrs. Murrel Girndt of Newton, Kansas; Mrs. Violet Myers of Springfield, Illinois; one stepson George Keezel of Palestine, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
. The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon, November 18, from the united Presbyterian Ch. with the pastor, Rev. James Pollock and the Rev. Guy D. Casey conducting the service. Miss Janett Robinson, a granddaughter, was pianist and his granddaughter-in-law, Mrs. Betty Robinson, soloist sang the 23rd Psalm.
. Casket bearers were George and Wallace Robinson and Clayton Iott, grandsons, and Ivan Bennett, Gerald Coffin and Wendell Baker. Honorary bearers were Preston Dunn, John and Roy Bower, Elmer Selp, Floyd Bozarth and E. E. Simmons.
. Interment was in the Lecompton, Kansas Cemetery with the Austin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
