Jane and Daniel had a hard life, which they carved from virgin Virginia forest. No doubt Jane had many chores that were demanding of a large family, in a small log cabin. The family would have traveled by ox cart or simply walked through the forest to make their way out of Peter's Run Road. They went to church services at the Old Tent Church and wore home spun clothing. I would imagine they carried their "long guns" or rifes with them as they went to and from church. These pioneers still needed to protect themselves from hostile Indians.
More information is available regarding both of these families. Reference the Terrill and Giffen family histories. Copies of both are at the Ohio County Library.
