He was the son of Pedro and Heloria (Latour) Chantre. The family moved to Newmarket when Louis was a young child, where he lived for the remainder of his years.
He was a brick maker for both Enos of Exeter and Goodrich of Epping brickyards. When the brickyards closed Louis went to work as a tool and die maker for United Machine of Fremont. He retired from there in 1995.
Louis was an avid sports fan. He and his wife Leana attended many games supporting their grandchildren, nieces and nephews. They travel where the team was playing.
Family was very important to Louis. He enjoyed all family functions, especially the Labor Day family cookout.
He was a talented guitar player and enjoyed teaching guitar. In the late 50's and 60's he played for the band "A Jack and Three Aces". They played in many local venues.
For twenty years he was a volunteer EMT with the Newmarket Ambulance Corp.
He was a former assistant scout master for many years, was an active band parent member, and enjoyed bowling. He also enjoyed traveling on many trips and tours.
Louis lived life with a smile and laughter that he shared with everyone he met. He will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Leana (Morin) Chantre of Newmarket; two daughters, Sharon Gordon and her husband Dick and Karen Mongeon and her husband Matthew all of Newmarket; 4 grandchildren, Christanya Gordon of Kirkland, WA., Matthew Gordon, Kyle Mongeon and Kendra Mongeon all of Newmarket;two brothers, Charles Chantre of Newmarket and Steven Chantre of Middleton; two sisters, Mrs. Timothy (Louise) Welch of Rye and Jean Bernier of Epping; a sister-in-law, Yvonne Chantre of Newmarket; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother John Chantre.
