Truman B. Thompson, 86, died at 1:50 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at his home. He was born July 12, 1917, in Jersey County to Logan and Viola I. (Bowers) Thompson. He married the former Helen Louise Campion on Nov. 6, 1940, in Elsberry, Mo. She survives. A custodian for the Alton Box Board, he retired Jan. 1, 1971, after 26 years of service and was an officer for the Alton Packaging Retired Members Club.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Truman R. Thompson and his wife, Brenda, Richard Thompson and his wife, Vicky, Ralph Thompson and his wife,Diana,; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Brakefield, and Cecile Russell; three brothers, Russell Thompson, Herman Thompson, and Donald Thompson; and two sisters-in-law, Irene Thompson and Artie Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents; one great-granddaughter, Megan Flatt, in 1997; four brothers, Logan, Charles, Raymond and James Thompson; and one sister, Hazel May Thompson.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until memorial services at 10 a.m. Saturday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. The Rev. Orrin Anderson will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
