A.G. Barrett passed away at his home at Barrett, Kansas at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 1900. He was 85 years, 9 months and 1 day of age.

A.G. Barrett was born in Harrison county, Ohio on July 18, 1815. He was married to Miss Mary McKeever in 1843, she passed away two years ago.

He was one of the early settlers to this area, coming in 1855. He was one of the principal factors in the first 4th of July Celebration ever held in the county in 1857. Mr. Barrett was quite prominent in the political affairs of the county. He was at one time a member of the county board, and from 1878 to 1882 was the county treasurer.

Mr. Barrett spent his boyhood days on a farm, having a mechanical mind he learned the wheel right trade, and followed it for several years. In all of his public and private dealings there was never a doubt of his honesty and integrity. His was a busy and active life, several months ago physical affliction came upon him.

Funeral services were held at the home at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, and was attended by a very large number of his old friends and neighbors.
