Joseph Ringelstetter was born on February 18, 1874, in Bear Creek Township, west of Plain, Wisconsin, the 11th and last child born to Johann Baptist "John" and Francisca "Frances" (Huber) Ringelstetter. His baptism took place on March 7, 1874, at St. Luke Catholic Church in Plain, Wisconsin. He was a farmer at Big Hollow in Bear Creek Township in Sauk County, Wisconsin (fire number S11229 County Road G). This farm was purchased in 1922 from H. J. Ellefson. It was here that Joseph's father, Johann "John" Ringelstetter died on February 11, 1924. On November 26, 1902, Joseph married Margaret Kaul at St. Kilian Catholic Church, Bear Valley, Richland County, Wisconsin. Margaret was the daughter of Casimir Kaul and Anna Marie Moll. Joseph and Margaret had living 11 children. Daughter Marie said her mother Margaret Kaul died in childbirth, which was January 12, 1930. Joseph died on January 22, 1958, at age 83 at Reedsburg Memorial Hospital, Reedsburg, Sauk County, Wisconsin.
