Margaret Kaul was born in Prussia in Germany, the daughter of Casimir Kaul and Anna Maria Moll. At about the age of 3, she emigrated from Germany on the North German Lloyd SS Rhein and arrived at New York, New York on August 7, 1885. She traveled with her parents and siblings, Peter, Helena, Adolph, Leonard, Catharina, Michael and Christian.

On November 26, 1902, she was married to Joseph Ringelstetter at St. Kilian Catholic Church, Bear Valley, Richland County, Wisconsin. They farmed in Big Hollow in Bear Creek Township, Sauk County, Wisconsin.

Joseph and Margaret had 11 children from the years 1903 to 1924. Margaret died at age 47 on January 12, 1930 after a hernia operation at St. Mary's hospital in Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin.
