In 1941, Mr. Kart co-founded the law firm of Fisk & Kart, developing a law practice that focused on property tax appeals and assessment law. His brother, Gilbert Kart, later joined the firm. The cornerstone of their practice was progressive thinking, client advocacy and personal service. Over the years the firm distinguished itself as a successful leader in the industry achieving tax reductions and refunds for a wide variety of clients. After he retired, Mr. Kart and his brother Gilbert Kart were both of counsel to Fisk, Kart, Katz & Regan. Gilbert Kart passed away in March 2012.
He was an active alumni leader of Northwestern University. He attended the University on a scholarship himself, established the Eugene Kart Scholarship Fund at the law school in 1982. This scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to outstanding students at the Law School. Mr. Kart received a Service Award from the Northwestern Alumni Association in 1984. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, was national president of the Tau Epsilon Rho Law Society in 1957-58, and a special assistant Illinois attorney general in 1964-65.
Eugene Kart was the beloved husband of the late Ruth, nee Becker; devoted father of Lawrence (Jeanne) Kart and Judith Kart (Dr. Jack) Hazan; loving grandfather of Jacob Kart, Sarah Hazan and Sharon (Daniel) DeBra; dear brother of Gilbert (Carrie) and the late Samuel (the late Esther) Kart; cherished companion of Mildred Lang.
