Pvt. John Cooper was a son of John Cooper & Hannah Rider.

He was a Private in the 8th Company of the 2nd Massachusetts Regiment in the Revolutionary War. He died on June 30th, 1778. He was not killed in battle. He was probably weakened from the winter at Valley Forge... most likely died while marching. It looks like his Company was near Fishkill, New York around the end of June 1778. His place of burial is unknown.
[Monday, Sept. 11th, 2017 - Last year, after reading "Written in My Own Heart’s Blood" in Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" series, it now seems most likely that Pvt. John Cooper was one of many who died of Heat Stroke at The Battle of Monmouth, New Jersey.]

John was married to Sarah Sampson on 19 Jan 1769 in Plymouth, Massachusetts by Rev Chandler Robbins.

They had at least 2 children:
1) Benjamin Cooper, married Susan King. They are buried in the Cooper Cemetery in Paris, Oxford County, Maine.
2) Sarah "Sally" Cooper, married Daniel Finney. She is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Plymouth.

After the death of Pvt. John Cooper, his widow, Sally, remarried on 11 Feb 1784 in Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts to Bennett Simmons.

Pvt. John Cooper probably would have been buried near his parents and his brother, Capt Richard Cooper, who was married to his wife's sister, Hannah Sampson.
