Former Local Resident Dies

Edward James Diffley,71, Leavenworth, Formerly of Atchison, died this morning at Cushing Memorial Hospital in Leavenworth, where he underwent surgery two weeks ago.
Funeral Services will be held Fiday at the Sawin-Dyer Chapel with the Rev. J. Preston Gregory, pastor of the Rushville Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Larkinburg Cemetery.
Members of the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Sawin-Dyer Mortuary.
He was a resident of the Atchison area before moving to Leavenworth 15 years ago and was employed by the Pillsbury Co. here for 13 years.
Mr. Diffley was custodian for the Leavenworth School for several years and later for the Presbyterian Church at Leavenworth for five years.
He was born March 1,1901 at Muscotah, Kansas, a son of John H. and Velmont Chase Diffley, and he and the former Leona Chambers of De Kalb were married January 19,1921, in Atchison.
They made their home at Muscotah before moving to Atchison, Kansas.
Mr. Diffley enjoyed fishing and spending time with his Grandchildren. He was a member of the Christian Church.
Surviving are Mrs. Diffley of the home; a daughter, Mrs Stephen McCourt, 803 George Street; a son, John Diffley, Nortonville, Kansas; two sisters, Mrs George Theurer, Sr., Atchison, and Mrs. Marion williams, Madison, Wis., and 10 grandchildren.
