Cobbie Lee (1920-2008)

Cobbie Lee, 88, of Ceredo, W.Va., a former Catlettsburg resident, passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, in Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.

Mr. Lee was born Sept. 22, 1920, in Catlettsburg, Ky., a son of the late Cobb and Victoria Marcum Lee. His wife, Mary George Mattingly Lee, preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were three brothers, George W. Lee, Warfield Lee and James Lee; and a sister, Charlotte Allen.

He served our country honorably with the United States Navy during World War II, graduated from Murray State Teachers College and held a master's degree in education. Cobbie was a teacher, coach and principal in several school systems, including Catlettsburg, Boyd County, Elizabethtown, Rock Hill and Raceland. He was a member of American Legion Post 93 Kenova and attended Kellogg Church of God in West Moreland. Cobbie was an extraordinary athlete and helped others to reach their fullest potential in education as well as sports. One of his talents was growing beautiful roses for all to enjoy.

Surviving are a son, George "Cobbie" Lee and his wife, Barbara, of Indiana; three daughters, Victoria Hull of Portsmouth, Ohio, Louanne Lee of Brooksville, Fla., and Shellie Lee of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister, Mary Becker of Catlettsburg; eight grandchildren, Victoria Hull Tackett and her husband, Thomas, Brandon Lee, Dennis Hull and his wife, Reneé, Robert Hull and his wife, Stephanie, Christopher Hull, James Hull, Joseph Hull and Nicole Lee; five precious great-grandchildren; and a special friend and companion, Judy Milum, and family.

A funeral service in honor of Mr. Lee will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg. Words of comfort will be offered by the Rev. Bruce Pickard. Final rest will be in Catlettsburg Cemetery. Military rites will be presented by Kenova American Legion Post 93.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
