Juanita A. Kay, 87, of Quapaw died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo.

Kay was born Jan. 30, 1918, to Charles Gates and Amanda Minnie (Ball) Dawes in Joplin.

She lived in the Quapaw area most of her life.

She served as Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star of Quapaw.

She worked as a mail carrier for seven years.

She was a member of Spring River Indian Baptist Church.

She was a member of the Quapaw and Modoc Indian Tribes.

She was married to Leonard Kay. He preceded her in death in 1979.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Kay of rural Quapaw; one special son, Paul Hart of Miami; four sisters, Wynona Pope of Peoria, Coweta Ulrey of Quapaw, Mendota Scott of Miami and Lula Soper of Carl Junction, Mo., and special friends, Curtis and Vickie McKibben of rural Quapaw, Leanne Reeves of Miami and Charla Kay Echohawk of Norman.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Lowell, Kan., Cemetery with the Rev. Ed McFall officiating.

The body will be at the Quapaw Tribal Building in Quapaw.

Arrangements are under the direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Picher.
