Lula Belle Soper was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on the morning of Tuesday, May 12, 2020. Over the last 83 years, she blessed her family, friends, and community with her warm smile, cheerful demeanor, unconditional love and prayers.
Lula Belle was born on October 17, 1936, in Quapaw, Oklahoma, to Charles and Lottie Dawes. She was the youngest of nine children. On December 15, 1956, she married the love of her life, Earl Dean, in Miami, Oklahoma. Together, they raised their three daughters, Carmen, Teresa, and Carla in Baxter Springs, Kansas. Over the years, Lula invested her time and love into her family.
She enjoyed spending summers on the lake, working on arts and crafts, volunteering in the community, and making dear friends with her coworkers, neighbors, and church. Lula Belle stood strong in her faith in Jesus Christ and was an active member of Spring River Assembly of God in Riverton, Kansas. She was also a proud charter member of Spring River Indian Baptist in Quapaw, Oklahoma.
Lula Belle worked as a cosmetologist for many years and made numerous friends both young and old with everyone that sat in her chair. She also worked at King Louie and Ace Electric where she retired after several years of service.
Following her retirement from Ace, Lula Belle enjoyed caring for her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who are all quite certain that there is nothing “Mum” couldn’t do.
Lula Belle was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Lottie Dawes, her husband: Earl Dean Soper, and siblings: Willis Dixon, Charles Dawes, Cecil Burkybile, Ramona Scott, Oleta Ballard, Mendota Scott, and Juanita Kay.
Survivors include one sister: Coweta Ulrey, three sisters-in law: Shirley Moyer, Nancy Whitten, and Johnny Soper, three daughters: Carmen Casey (Allen), Teresa Buckmaster (Doug), and Carla Roberson (Mark), five grandchildren: Kanisha Richardson (Jacob), Mallory Woods (Taylor), Matt Fitch (Sabra), Chelsey Saffell (Hunter), and Dylan Casey (Samie), and four great-grandchildren: Alex Richardson, Anni Richardson, Judah Casey, and Andy Richardson.
A celebration of life will be held in Lula Belle’s honor at Spring River Assembly of God as soon as the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
