Peeps was bought in Vasser for $250. She was priceless tho.

At about 4 years of age she suffered a lens luxation and had to have eye surgery to the tune of $3000, but we went thru it for her thinking she was young enough she would benefit from the surgery and be able to see for the rest of her, hopfully long, life.

The surgery didn't help her at all and the eye remained cloudy, and she never did see out of it again. Perhaps a part of her demise.

One night about a year later, all four of our terriers were out going potty before coming in and going to bed. Just one turn of the back and she went into the road. Was hit and killed instantly by a driver who didn't even stop.

My husband scooped her up and brought her in the house. He was just wailing and crying. He handed her to me and then sat at the bar with his head on his arms and cried for a good hour. Then he dragged himself upstairs with the other dogs and went to bed, just heart sick. I had to call him in "sick" because he just couldn't get himself together. He's like that when we have lost any animal. They are our babies.

I held my lifeless little girl on my chest throughout the night, setting in the lazy boy, tipped back and just petting her, and crying in her furry neck. Finally about 6 in the morning I decided I wanted her cremated so her remains could be placed in my casket with me when I go. I just couldn't bear the thought of her being put in the ground and left alone. Wondering what would become of our home after both of us were gone. We have many of our pets buried out behind the barn, but I didn't want her left out there for the rest of eternity. I needed her with me. We always called her our "special needs" girl because she was so different. She never was a cuddly dog who enjoyed being snuggled on our laps. She was quite frightened when picked up and would stiffened in fear. She didn't like to be kissed. Tho she would lay and chew her bones and biscuits and things on the foot of the lazy boy between my legs.

Peeps loved going to deer camp in November, as do all our dogs. Our other rat terrier, Shadow, was like her big sister and she learned alot from following her. Together they would romp thru the woods and play around the barns and fields at the place where we keep our camper on private property. Her birthday fell on Nov 16, the day after opening day of deer season so we always had a birthday party for her there. Deer-hunting just isn't the same without her.

Peeps was the funniest little dog. She loved to dig and we ordered a load of sand one summer to use in the making of a patio. She would get to digging and she would move her whole body around and around the hole as her little front feet keeping digging and digging and digging. The hole wouldn't get any deeper, but it did get bigger around the longer she worked at it.

Her buddy Shadow taught her how to catch mice. She loved it. We would go out to the garden where a few extra bales of straw were laid around. She would wait till I tipped the bails over and then they both would pounce and scramble looking for the critters to run. Whenever she heard the words "get the mousey?" her ears would perk up, eyes would brighten and she'd do that funny little tilt with her head. She knew what it meant and couldn't wait to get outside and help Shadow hunt. Between the two of them they kept the pole barn clean.

By 7 in the morning I had decided and sought out a crematorium (Vet) via the phone book. I took my girl and drove where I found the place still not open for the day, so I waited another couple hours holding her in a cold car for the first employee to pull in. I immediately went up and knocked and the lady was so nice. They let me fill out the paper work and they took her stiff little body away and down a hallway. I was leaving the place in tears before other people came for their appointments.

It hurt so much to lose her so young. She will be missed and in our hearts forever. It has taken me over a year and a half to work up the courage to even begin her Bio. I am so sorry. She deserved better. Life just isn't the same, but she is still here, with us, in all our thoughts.
